XML Banner Rotator with Thumbs

This is a highly customizable XML Banner Rotator which supports thumbnail display for the larger images, at any size defined in the XML.

You can control the colors, the position and size of the elements, as well as the timing and descriptions, from XML.

Hi, I've integrated this component into a flash site.
http://www.mohawkdogstudio.com/
however, if you click on "for sale" you will notice the images don't transition smoothly - it seems to get worse, the more images I add to that folder. You can compare it to the "projects" section, which works pretty smoothly. This seems like a bug. Can you address this issue?

Hi,

You are right, this looks a little awkward. Can you tell us what sizes the images have? We couldn't know where they are located on our website, since you got your own flash project. If they are not optimized, can you try to reduce their size and then see the result? They might be a little too big and some machines don't process them that fast. Adding the fading effects we put in that component, this might cost some processing time and also could make it look weird.

We'll help you with this as much as we can.

thanks for the response. I've tried to optimize the jpgs as much as possible. Any more compression and they'll start looking really bad. The small thumbs are 2.5k and the large images are 25k. But I don't think it's the file size - because the "projects" section with only 5 images works just fine, and those images are the same size.

I'm wondering if you can put a quick preloader on each large image before it transitions to the next one? Kind of like the way this works (http://www.republicofcode.com/tutorial...)

I don't know if that's the best way or not, just a suggestion.

You'll need to update the com/vuzum directory. But make sure you compile them and make a new SWF file.

Hi, I've just purchased the XML Banner rotator with thumbs. it's a good work .

but i need to make some customization to make it perfect ,

1. need to move the next and prev button to the center of each side right and left and have them stay there all the time like arrow " < > "

2. to make the thumbs stay there all the time.

3. to make the gallery can load png.

Basically i want to do some like this banner of best buy

Thanks for your emails , For now i just need the banner to resize ,

i'm using percentage not px ,

when i change the width to % only the background of the banner stretch the images not stretching !

Hi,

I just tried using percentage and the images resize accordingly. This does not mean that the component will stretch the images so that they'll fit the whole width/height.

The component will resize the images keeping the ratio between width and height.

If it would stretch the images to the width/height the images would be distorted and they would look awful. We can't allow that for our users.

So, in conclusion, the component resizes the images properly. If you want it to stretch your images and distort them to fit the component, we'll be happy to do this for you. Just send an email to [email protected]

Hi, I've been using this component for a while now and am really happy with it. I have one question, though. I recently noticed that the pause/play button is stretched out. Here's the site again (http://www.mohawkdogstudio.com/). Go to GALLERY or JEWELRY and you'll see it.
I can't seem to find any setting that would change that in the XML file, and if I did something to change it, I did it by accident. Any way to get that back to normal?

Hi,

It's looking good on your website. That's the way the buttons were built. They don't look different than the buttons on the component above, but you can change their shapes in the FLA file. In the XML file you can't alter their size or anything. If you did something to them, then you did it in the FLA file.

Also, I noticed on your website that the text does not work. That's because you didn't install the fonts that come with the component before you published the SWF file.

No flash application works on iPhones or iPads. Apple doesn't want Flash to run on their devices.

What can I do to remove white background between images? I dont want to set another colour, but make flash/something else to download next image before changing picture.

We understand what you want, but the component was built this way because we can't know on what image the user would go next. This is why we used this method.

XML Banner Rotator with Thumbs - change log

We included SWF files support.

Updated December 8th 2010.
- the component worked a little too slow when too much images were added to the XML file. With this update this problem is solved.

Updated 9 June 2010.
- three additional parameters were added to the XML, which allow you to disable the tooltip, set the text color and set it's fill color.

Updated 5 May 2010.
- we fixed a bug which caused smaller images to scale so that the entire display area is filled. Now, you can use smaller images, which are resized to fill the display area on either width or height, depending on the image dimensions.

- another bug fixed was causing the latest thumb on a page, to not be unselected if the second page of images contained less images than a full page of thumbs. For example, if there were 7 thumbs, and pages of 5 thumbs only, the 5th thumb would have this issue when going to next page, by clicking on the next button. It's fixed now.

- we added some additional parameters in the XML, to allow you to set the autohide value for the controller, if this is visible. You also control the time in seconds which is required to pass after the user rolls out of the component, or in case he does not interact with it.

This is useful to display the entire image while the user doesn't need to interact with the component.
