Flabell Simple Flash Mp3 Player

Minimalistic Mp3 player with a twist, perfect for your website. It supports the basic functions of an mp3 player:
- play
- pause
- draggable volume bar
- sound visualizer

It includes a special sound visualizer that changes when you drag the volume bar.

Note: The song used in this file is a sample, under 30 seconds for legal reasons. You can easily update it in the HTML code (it's passed through FlashVars).

We updated the player couple of minutes ago, which is why there was no oficial post on the blog. Please download the files from your account, as the zip contains some bug fixed, plus some bonus design files.

Very nice and simple interface, I second the notion of the progress bar, I think it it psychologically important for the user to have some sense of time.

Thanks for the feedback guys. What do you think about something like this: if there is no interaction with the player, the progress bar will be displayed. On RollOver, the volume bar is displayed. This way we keep the main concept of the product (which we really want to keep!), but also add new functionality.

Also, we thought there would be nice to add a next, prev (small arrows) in the screen with the artist and the song. This way we can receive a playlist, and add more functionality from there (as loop the playlist, autostart, start with X song, you name it). Do you think that would improve the player?

what is so good about it is that is compact yet very functional, and nicely designed.

Please do let us know what else you think would work well in this player, but keep one small thing in mind: the concept. We don't want to alter it, as the main idea was to only add what's needed, and remove the clutter.

You could just make in the background (or even the background itself) a very faded progress bar.

My suggestion is: Once you click play, instead of the volume visualizer, a progress bar shows. If you hover your mouse over it while its loading, the volume visualizer shows. Also, once the loading is done, it switches over to the volume visualizer permanently. That way, its both minimalistic, pretty and functional.

1. I downloaded the Simple Flash Mp3 Player. What should I upload to my server?

If you want to deploy the files to your server, you need to upload the content INSIDE the deploy folder. The other folder is the source folder, and that contains all the files used to create the product.

2. Where can I find some sample code for embedding the swf file?

Please open the index.html file, and select view > page source from the browser menu OR open the index.html file with a text editor.

3. Is the MP3 file externally loaded?

Yes, the mp3 file is passed in the FlashVars.

4. I want to modify the player. Are you available for custom work?

Yes, at the market rate. Please contact us at support@flabell.com

5. Can I use different fonts for the player?

Yes, the steps for changing the fonts are: - edit the FLA file - embed the fonts - change them in the textfield you need new fonts - export the swf file

6. When I open the file it says font missing. What should I do?

Before opening the Flash file you need to install the fonts that came with the download. After that you can make the changes you need in the FLA, and the fonts won't be missing.

7. What is the shadow layer for?

The shadow layer is used for display purposes only. You can easily remove it, and align the mcPlayer to the 0x0 coordinates. Make sure you change the stage size back to 281x78 before you publish the swf file, if you want to remove the shadow layer. This way, the swf size have the same dimensions as the Simple Flash Mp3 Player.
