Hi there.
I recently downloaded this componant to use within a website I'm building using Flash Catalyst.
I'm curious first off if there is anything special I must do to make it work under this condition?
Just a note, I tried to publish the no background version of the componant, but for some reason nothing was visible. No text whatsoever.
I tried using the version with the background, editing the background to my design and resizing the stage and background, but keeping the componant itself the same size, but when I published it and imported it into Flash Catalyst, it was very very small and only showed up as a generic movie-clip icon.
If you have some advice it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi Stefan,

Just like I told you in the email response sent you, I'm sorry but we are not familiar with Flash Catalyst, so we can't promise that our project will work if imported in a Catalyst project. At least not the way it works in a Flash Project.

The thing I know for sure is that the component must be initiated as it is in the Sample.as file or as showed in our tutorial:

http://www.flabell.com/blog/1641/embed...

Maybe you should try embedding the movie clips from our Flash Project in your Catalyst project, and not the published SWF file. That published SWF file, sanding alone, needs files like the XML files we used, the newsletter.php file etc. So when using it in a new Flash project or a Catalyst project, to work properly, it will need to be initiated just the way we do it in the tutorial.

I hope you'll figure it out and use it successfully in Catalyst.

And by movie clips you mean...? Sorry, still learning a lot about Flash.
My understanding is placing a swf in a Flash Catalyst project shouldn't be too much different than placing it in a Flash project. In any case, any extra code needed can be edited using Flash Builder.

There were also some questions in my original post concerning what is editable and what is not in the newsletter component. Could you perhaps address those? I'll paste them below:

I tested the no background version of the componant in Flash CS5, but for some reason nothing was visible. No text whatsoever.
I also edited the background version to my own design, and tried to use that, but when i saved it in a separate folder and tested it in Flash CS5, all the functionality was lost.
Any thoughts? I appreciate your help.

Hi,

The movie clips are the pieces which form the flash project. Please watch our tutorial (the one I pasted on the last comment):

http://www.flabell.com/blog/1641/embed...

In the tutorial you'll see that some code needs to be written in Action Script in the main timeline. The component needs some parameters to initialize.

Try embedding the component in Catalyst and then associate the code it needs with Flash Builder (the pathToFiles, xmlPath variables and other).

Our components need to access other files. So when you used the project in other folder it, probably, didn't had those files in that folder. This is why it didn't have functionality.

Did you watched the tutorial and did the exact same things we do in your Flash CS5 project? If you did so and still doesn't work, please send us your files at support@flabell.com and we'll make that Flash CS5 project to work. Please use the email address you registered on Flabell with.

I'm sorry we can't help you much with Flash Catalyst.

Thanks for your thorough reply. I finally got the chance to try out your advice. I'm happy to report that the component works great. I've tested it out.
The one problem is, while the component is visible when viewing the site on the computer I used to create and post the site, it is not visible when viewing it on my other computers.

I'm wondering if you can shed some light on this? It seems odd that it would work perfectly on one computer, and yet not even be visible on another.

the url is www.abito.ca and the component is located on the contact page in the lower left hand corner.

I thank you in advance, and Happy New Year!

Hi Stefan,

I'm glad you made it work.

If you can't see the component on another computer, it may be because it doesn't have the resources it needs when it's initialized or the paths to them are not correct. Please make sure you copied every file the component needs and that the paths are good.

It is strange that it doesn't work on your other computers. I thought you maybe used the free preview SWF file, which works only on your local machine. When published on a website, it won't work. But you said it's not working on other local computers. It's strange. When you bought the component, have you downloaded the component with the source files and everything? I assume you used that SWF file.

Just check if it has all the files it needs.

Hello:

Is it possible to add a "captcha"?

Thanks

Hi Cris,

I don't think there is a robot that can sign up for the newsletter in a flash component (please correct me if I'm wrong). So there would be no use for a captcha.

Thanks for the suggestion though. We appreciate this.

Hi,

We appreciate the interest you have in this component, but, unfortunately, you can't put another text field in it.

Our team could implement this as a custom work. Please send us an email at office@vuzum.com, if you're interested.

Can I configure the output to an .asp file.

Sure. You'll just have to edit the path to it in the newsletter.xml file. Under this attribute:

phpPath="newsletter.php"

set your path to the ASP file, relative to the pathToFiles flashvar that is set in the html file.

Note that it just have to have at least the same functionality that our php file has.

You can try this on your local machine using our free preview.
